St. Louis Wants to Develop the Area Around the Gateway Arch

The gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri was conceived in 1947 when an architect named Eero Saarinen won a competition to create a memorial to the start of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the country’s expansion out to the west. Fifteen years later the Arch was completed in 1965 at a cost of only $15 million and without the aid
of computers.
